At our meeting of April 25th, it was my great pleasure to present Paul Harris Fellow awards to Gordon Sommers (PHF+6), and to Hank Barnette (PHF+4). Many thanks to Gordon and Hank for their generosity, and commitment to the principles of Rotary.
George Mowrer then spoke to us about the Rotary International Foundation. The RI Foundation, since its inception, has spent over $3 billion on life changing, sustainable projects around the world. Donations made by our members fuel the service projects that eradicate polio, promote peace, and improve developing communities. If you would like to donate any amount to RI Foundation, you can simply give George a check made out to RI Foundation, and he will take care of processing it.
Our speaker was Denise Mikovitch, who is a licensed Ashaya Yoga Instructor, a mother of two, and the owner of Kula Heart Yoga & Wellness, which is located at 3400 Bath Pike in Bethlehem. Kula means “community”, and her purpose is to create a warm, friendly and non-competitive community where you can learn to use yoga techniques and philosophy to live a healthier, more enjoyable life. In addition to more than 11 instructors, her studio also offers massage therapy in addition to or in conjunction with yoga training. Kula Heart’s Massage Therapy is designed to attain proper alignment of the body, as well as teach relaxation.
Denise took us through several chair yoga techniques designed to stretch muscles, and create a sense of relaxation. She believes that yoga is helpful to people of any age or physical condition, and improves strength, flexibility and balance. Everyone was more relaxed after completing the exercise, especially me, so I may give it a try. Her website is www.kulaheartyoga.com .
