At our meeting of May 23rd, our program was a classification talk by Patrick Morgan, followed by a presentation by Dr. Charles Rinehimer of Northampton Community College. Patrick is a Physical Therapist, and currently works with Nova Care and Bayada Home Health. He was a 1995 graduate of Northampton High School, and went on to receive his undergraduate and masters degrees from D’Youville College in Buffalo, NY. Patrick worked as a physical therapist in North Carolina and Alaska before moving back to the Lehigh Valley. He is currently working on his dissertation for a doctorate from Texas Tech University.
Patrick talked about why he joined Bethlehem Rotary and the issues which he is passionate about. Patrick has been an active member, is excited about the potential of solving community issues with the support of our club and RI.
Dr. Rinehimer is the Director of the Tanzania Wildlife Safari sponsored by Northampton Community College. The safari is scheduled for July of 2018, and is open to the public. Dr. Rinehimer described the experience as an immersive, luxury camping safari that goes to the heart of Tanzania’s best wildlife viewing areas, including Tarangire, Ngorongoro, and Serengeti National Parks. Since its founding, Tanzania has focused on tourism as the basis of its economy, which has led to the preservation of these vast spaces, and animal species. A key part of the planned safari is to view part of the “Great Migration”, where 1,000,000 Wildebeest, and 200,000 zebra roam the plains in search of food and water. We saw many stunning photographs of animals in their native habitat. For those interested in more information, information is available and the trip can be booked through Thompson Safaris

Next week’s speaker will be Bethlehem Rotarian, Hopeton Clennon, who will discuss his recent trip to the Holy Land.
Our Board voted to sponsor three students for Camp Neidig this year rather than the two we had budgeted for. The extra funds of $260 were from a budget surplus, and will be a great investment in the future of our community.
There is an educational event planned by our Bethlehem Rotary Action Group Against Slavery, which is scheduled for June 26th at Moravian College.
