THIS WEEK:
Fellow Rotarians, we have an opportunity to participate in one of the most important midday meetings of the year. This Wednesday, President Elect Lori Knerr will be our keynote speaker. We look forward to hearing her plans for the 2023-2024 Rotary Year. Joyfully, we also look forward to responding with our support.
LAST WEEK:
We welcomed our final BAVTS artisan speaker for the year, Brandon Maniscalco, a senior at Liberty High School. As a 4-year member of the soccer team and a 2-year hurdler for the track & field team, Brandon is heading to Lebanon Valley College in the fall. His plan is to study exercise science with the goal of becoming a physical therapist. He became CPR certified in the BAVTS program and had the good fortune of being able to shadow at LVHN-Muhlenberg in 17 different departments. He left us with these words: “To really enjoy life you must be happy with yourself and the job you are doing.” Well done, Brandon!

Our guest speaker was Kate Walker, a recipient of the BEST mentorship/scholarship program. What an inspiration! As a rising Junior at Millersville University, Kate is extremely active on and off campus. As the eldest of four siblings, she is a 2021 graduate of Freedom High School with a passion for the teaching profession. Kate is currently double majoring in Special and Early Education. She is a dancer, teacher, club president, and leader. Her love for children shines brightly. How love for dance since age two finds wonderful avenues for expression in performance, instruction, and leadership. She ended her fast-paced presentation with a helpful focus on the many ways BEST has helped in her success.
BEST Scholarship mentee, Kate Walker shares her story
Building Education Support Teams (BEST, Inc.) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2008 “to aid students in need of financial assistance to fulfill their dreams and goals of obtaining a college education.” Kate was introduced by Billy Staples, the president of BEST. He gave us an update on the organization and responded to our questions about success rates in the region. Following Billy and Kate, Rotarian Maria Dietrich shared a bit about her experience as mentor for Kate for the past two years. We offer special thanks to Maria for organizing this program and highlighting the impact the Rotary Club of Bethlehem is having on our community.
