Jonah McCloskey, a senior at BAVTS, spoke to us this week about his journey at BAVTS in megatronics. Attending BAVTS has afforded Jonah many opportunities, such as traveling to Germany and visiting BBraun, Porsche and many other companies. He was able to visit a tech college in Germany as well to see what they are doing in the field. In the fall, he plans to attend Pennsylvania College of Technology in Williamsport and to major in megatronics. Jonah also made the cookie cutter the culinary students will be using to make the cookies for this years’ Tastes & Tunes!
Our guest speaker this week was Michael Orbin from the Allentown Rotary Club. Mike spoke to us about Sustainable Cambodia. Mike has only been a Rotarian for 5 years, but has been involved for many years through his wife. Once he retired he decided he wanted to make a difference and joined Rotary and through that discovered the Sustainable Cambodia non-profit. He has made many trips to Cambodia, helping the Cambodian people to learn to sustain themselves through education, safe water, food security, health and hygiene and income generation. Mike’s passion for this endeavor was evident in his presentation.
A few reminders:
The Tastes & Tunes Committee is looking for every Rotarian to donate a bottle of wine, scratch off lottery tickets (any amount you would like) and to buy at least 2 tickets, even if you cannot attend! We will donate the tickets to a veteran.
Please continue to solicit sponsorships, ticket sales and auction items for the event. To date we only have 2 tickets sold.
IMPORTANT: We will not have our regular Wednesday meeting this week. We will be having our meeting at The Kellyn Foundation in Nazareth on Thursday October 5 at 5:30. Tickets must be purchased ahead of time. The tickets are $35 each. Bring a friend! There will be food as well as drinks provided by Weyerbacher Brewing and Tolino Vineyards.
