It wasn’t exactly a “Magic Carpet Ride,” but Gary Ward’s presentation on Oriental Rugs came close. Ward, who (along with his son) owns Ward’s Oriental Rugs in Allentown, gave our Rotarians a fascinating history in the art and craft of rug making in the Middle East and beyond. The samples he brought included machine-made and hand-knotted carpets, and he pointed out how to spot the ‘real deal’ when making purchases. The very good ones aren’t cheap, but they last for decades (one was 150 years old). Based on the number of Rotarians asking questions during and after the meeting, it’s fair to say that it was a more-than-interesting program.

The annual election for Officers and Board members will be held at our regular meeting on December 16th. Nominations will remain open until that time. A quorum is necessary for voting that day, so please plan to attend. I hope that several of you will consider either volunteering or being nominated to serve in a leadership capacity for our club. It is a very rewarding service experience.
We recently received a gracious thank you from PP George Hahalis for the Bethlehem Club’s donation of $200 in gift cards to assist victims of the wildfires in Napa County, California. George sent his thanks and greetings to his Bethlehem friends and fellow Rotarians.
Tracy Bozik and the Dictionary Committee are looking for volunteers to distribute those books in schools during the month of December. Having done it myself a few years back, I can tell you it is a wonderful feeling seeing those children receive their dictionaries, giving them a crucial ‘leg up’ in their academic progress. Please contact Tracy if you can help. It requires only a small amount of time to make a big difference in the children’s lives.
We still need a few more volunteers to ring the kettle bell for the Salvation Army at Christkindlmarkt on Saturday, December 12th. Please consider giving an hour of your time for this worthy cause of helping others In need. The sign up sheet will again be at the registration desk at Wednesday’smeeting. Thanks to all who shared their good news at our “Happy Bucks” session yesterday. We raised $27 to help our bottom line.
Our program for December 9th is still a work in progress (we had a cancelation), but it promises to be a good one. We will also have a new member induction ceremony. I hope you can attend.
