The highlight of this week is none other than our keynote speaker, Past President Mark Reed. His intriguing topic will be “Staying one step ahead… In Higher Ed”. Please join us for our regular weekly lunch meeting this Wednesday at noon at the Fowler Family Center on Third Street.

 

 

 

MAY 24: We welcomed President Elect Lori Knerr as our keynote speaker.

 

 

She described her goals and primary focus points for the 2023-2024 Rotary Year. Lori reported that we are now down to 71 active members, 6 honorary members and 2 corporate members for a total of 79. She reminisced about the time we were well over 100 before Covid-19. She encouraged our active response to her three main areas of focus: (1) Membership, including recruiting, orientating, engaging, and retaining; (2) Committees—reduced to nine—please volunteer to chair or participate on the committee of your choice; (3) Weekly meeting format. Please note that the Changeover Meeting will be June 28 at noon at the Fowler Family Southside Center (NCC) on Third Street.

 

MAY 31: The Rotary Club of Bethlehem engaged in a business meeting for the first half of our time together. We elected a slate of officers for the new Rotary year beginning on July 1. Special thanks to Ham Malek for leading the process in an efficient and effective manner. Deepest thanks to the new team of officers all offering service above self and ably led by Lori Knerr.

 

The second half of our meeting was handed over to Past President Kerry Wrobel.

 

 

Although his expertise shows best in the leadership he provides in his role as President for Lehigh Valley Industrial Park, his impromptu talk showed that and so much more. Kerry successfully brought us into the conversation from the very start. He weaved in stories of transition and revitalization in a manner that was so inspiring. He also expressed appreciation Rotarian Darlene Heller for her excellent work in city government. Heartiest congratulations on the success of LVIP!

 

Our Club sponsored a wonderful family picnic at Bethlehem Township Municipal Park, Pavilion #2, last week Sunday. There were at least 25 members and friends participating. Grill Master Buck Jones did a super job with Sous Chef Sally Snyder (wife of Rotarian Lee Snyder) The cornhole tournament was as competitive as it was fun! Congratulations to Rotarian Dana Huber and her husband, Scott Brazuk, for winning the inaugural Tournament of Cornhole Champions! Rotarian Dee Dee Foran promises the family picnic will return year. She did a terrific job planning and executing this successful social event.

 

 

 

Past President Gerry Foran serves as President of the Bethlehem Rotary Foundation. He led our business meeting with a PowerPoint presentation on the Foundation. Gerry was comprehensive in his review and provided helpful explanations along the way. Thank you, Gerry!

 

Special thanks to Rotarian Marty Finns for reintroducing a project he initiated a few years ago. He printed special labels and distributed them to club members inviting us to repurpose past issues of our ROTARY magazines. The idea is that when we are finished reading the monthly issues and sharing it with family and friends, we may cover our mailing addresses with the special labels and take the magazines to any of the public waiting rooms in our community.
