Cindy Hornaman, District Governor for District 7430, visited our club this week along her whirlwind tour including visits to all 45 clubs in our district.  During our lunch meeting, Cindy shared personal stories about how Rotary has influenced her life, offered perspectives about how the district can provide local support and gave us important information about the upcoming District Conference in May. 

 

This year, Cindy has challenged all of the club Presidents to try some new things in our clubs… applying a very simple acronym “SSD”.  She has encouraged us to try something Simple, Special and Different.  In planning this year’s district conference, Cindy has certainly walked the talk!  The conference this year will be held at the Renaissance Hotel in Allentown, and as we heard a sneak preview of the conference lineup, this year will provide new energy for sure.  Stay tuned for more information as we get closer to the event. 

 

In addition to our lunch meeting, the Board convened for an ad hoc meeting that provided an opportunity for us to tell Cindy about the great things we are doing in our club.  She could not have been more complimentary of the work we continue to do and the genuine camaraderie within our membership.  It was very telling, indeed, as Cindy picked two Rotarians at random, and asked one to tell something about the other.  She did the exercise three times… and each time, the selected person was able to rattle off some interesting information about their fellow Rotarian.  This is something we take for granted but is not necessarily so common in a club our size…. Well done!!

 

 

 

District 1030 is next to the border of Scotland and along the coast with Newcastle Upon Tyne the largest city in the district.  We'll have a chance to visit Hadrian's wall and castles as well as seaside towns.  If you like meeting new people as well as learning about new cultures plus able to travel within a short time frame email me directly: deeleng@gmail.com if you are interested or have any questions.  Travel expenses are paid by the participant although we are hosted in Rotarians home with some meals included.  Participants are also asked to have their club host when District 1030 comes in the spring of 2019.  At the moment tickets to Edinburgh airport which is 1 1/2 hours away by train is about $700 for economy and train tickets are about $30 one way.  My contact info:”
