Our lunch meeting this week featured a presentation from Alan Jennings, the Executive Director of the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley (CACLV).  As always, Alan’s message was thought provoking.  His perspectives certainly make us think about poverty in our neighborhoods in a very different way.  Creating an environment for success, as opposed to enabling, is a cornerstone of his approach, and that mantra is interwoven into the many programs administered under the umbrella of CACLV.  Thank you, Alan, and we look forward to your next visit with us!

At our meeting, we announced that Patrick Morgan was voted by the Board to fill the open Board position vacated by Brennan Pursell, who has stepped down from the Board as a result of other commitments.  Thank you, Patrick for agreeing to step up!

This is the last reminder that the grant application deadline for the Bethlehem Rotary Foundation is October 31st!  Remember that we have more money to distribute this year as a result of the allocation of the Tastes & Tunes proceeds.  We need your help to find those organizations that can benefit from distributions from our foundation!

We have re-named our mini-meeting, the DropKick Meeting.  We had our first official DropKick meeting this past Thursday at Taps Tavern.  Special thanks to Paul Ricciardi for organizing this event.

Our annual Thanksgiving Networking lunch is scheduled for Wednesday, November 14th.  Our tradition has been to invite members from other Area 2 clubs, so please circle this date on your calendar and plan to attend this special luncheon.

Registration for District Conference is open, and the early bird registration rates expire on 10/31.  The conference this year is in Allentown, so it will be very convenient for us all to attend.  Here is the link to view the event and get registered…

World Polio Day lauds partnerships, success

After 30 years of bold action, historic achievements, and sometimes discouraging setbacks, Rotary and its partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative (GPEI) have nearly brought polio to an end. This groundbreaking public-private partnership and its innovative strategies were celebrated Wednesday during Rotary’s 6th annual World Polio Day event, held in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, at the College of Physicians of Philadelphia. Watch the livestream.
