WHAT A WEEKEND --

  • We participated in the Purple Pinky Race to Zero on Saturday. Members Carrie Madigan, Diane Donaher, and I were led by our club's liaison, Maria Nathans. We were joined by my son, Jorey, his girlfriend, Leah, their two little dogs, and my good friends -- Mary Gotzon and Karen  Uglaub. Jorey, Leah and Karen took home first place medals and they and Mary all also won door prizes. The course was challenging, and the food and entertainment were excellent. Please plan to attend next year as a good time was had by all.

Our tired, but happy Purple Pinky warriors!

  • We also enjoyed the return of our TASTES & TUNES as an in-person event and noted its 10th anniversary this year. Dee Dee Foran and her committee did an excellent job. It was a beautiful day at Illick's Mill, and it was terrific to see so many Rotarians in person again. We not only accomplished our goal of raising money but many new community members learned about the issue of sex trafficking and the commitments of many dedicated people to address it in our community. District Governor Bob Hobaugh and his wife joined us.  We thank Dee Dee; her committee of: Rocco Damato, Dave Erickson, Deb Geiger, Lori Knerr, Paul Leese, Gerry Long, Jill Long, Anne Millham, Michelle Morton, Maria Nathans, Bill Rowe and Kerry Wrobel; the Interact Club Students from Liberty High School; and the Lehigh Valley Charter High School of the Arts; our sponsors; and so many others including our honorary chair, Teri Haddad. Watch for our billboards thanking our sponsors this week and next.  If you had your phones handy and took pictures, please email them to Al Philpotts (aphilpotts@gmail.com).  Al will put them into an online photo book for our website.

We congratulate the Mickolays who won the grand prize in the raffle: $1,000!

THIS WEEK --

  • Our Tastes & Tunes ONLINE AUCTION went live at 2:00 PM today.  Please register for bidding at this LINK and bid high and bid often to continue raising money for Tastes & Tunes and our beneficiaries. Please forward the link to friends to make this a successful silent auction. The auction closes Oct. 10.

  • Make every effort to attend our Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion presentation by Judy Sabino of LVHN who will speak about Unconscious Bias this Wednesday during our regular meeting.

LAST WEEK -- Erika Riddle Petrozelli and her colleague, Mike Wilson, shared what's new at the Lehigh Valley Community Foundation and how they determine where to allocate people, time and financial resources to address issues in our community.

Yours in Rotary service,

President Deb Walter
