At our November 1st meeting I announced that the Purple Pinkie Run sponsored by our Rotary District 7430 raised over $30,000. This will be matched by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation at the rate of 2-1, so that means that the event will have raised over $90,000 for polio eradication. Thanks to all of our members who participated in this event by making pledges or taking part in the run.

Operation Warm is continuing, and some members have already contributed. We ask members to contribute $20, and each $20 donation will pay for a winter coat for a child in need. We will contribute the money raised to the Boys & Girls Club who will take the children to shop for and select a coat to keep them warm this winter. Dee Dee Foran will be collecting money after our meetings. Please consider donating.

If you have a chance, please check out the new fountain at 7th & Hamilton in Allentown. The fountain was a project of the Allentown Club as part of their 100th anniversary celebration. The fountain features the Rotary International Logo as its backdrop.

Our speaker for the meeting was Vincent Mondillo of Mondillo Video Productions. Vince was born and raised in Easton, and is a graduate of Temple University. He has produced a wide range of work which include commercials as well as documentaries. His biography of actor James Woods has appeared on the Biography Channel.

Vince began by showing a 10 minute video about a movie which he produced discussing the issue of “Single Payor Healthcare”. Since this is a controversial issue in the U.S., the video was designed to get people to watch the movie. He believes that if people will watch the movie, regardless of whether they support or oppose the idea, a real discussion and debate can take place on the issue.  After the video was finished, he addressed many excellent questions which came from members. The movie is available to view at https://fixithealthcare.com .

Our 50/50 drawing was the eighth week of our return to the “Queen of Hearts” style. Hank Barnette had the winning ticket for the second week in a row, but didn’t pull the Queen of Hearts. There are 44 cards left in the deck, and next week’s pot will start at $191. Come and try your luck!
