Wednesday’s meeting was packed with activity. Our speaker was Beverly Donchez Bradley, Director for the Cops and Kids Literacy Program in Bethlehem. Beverly knew almost everyone in the room and gave our Rotarians a moving pep talk on the importance of literacy and personal recognition in the lives of children. She cited several examples of small kindnesses making a big difference for creating a sense of identity and importance in children. Thanks for sharing a compelling story, Beverly.
We also welcomed and inducted Jordan Young as our newest member of the Bethlehem Rotary Club. Jordan was sponsored and introduced by Paul Ricciardi. Jordan and his family own the Bethlehem Gallery of Floors. Welcome to Rotary, Jordan.
We extended a special welcome to Youth Exchange student Paula Fabon from Spain. Paula is a junior at Liberty High School this year and is being hosted this fall by George and Betsy Mowrer. Paula is interested in pursuing a career in architecture, and is enjoying her time in the USA and in Bethlehem. Rotary presented her with a small remembrance of Bethlehem to take back home when she returns.
Rotarians heard yesterday from two BAVTS ‘shadows’ at the meeting. Juniors Zachary Fritzinger and Tyler Heft told us of their budding careers in electronics technology. Both young men were articulate and poised as they addressed the assembled Rotarians. They were accompanied by their teacher, Glenn Milovitz. Rotary’s support of these students continues to make a big contribution to their confidence and future success.
