NFP is a home visitation program for low-income mothers starting early in pregnancy.
NFP has been in the Lehigh valley starting in Bethlehem in 2001. In 2009 Allentown Bethlehem and Easton joined to create one larger program. In 2019 we expanded to serve an additional 25 clients allowing us to care for 275 and most recently in 2022 we were able to expand again by 1 nurse bringing our total to 300 clients.
This program is based on over 45 years of research
Kelly Berk has been working in public health and maternal child health nursing for over 23 years.
LAST WEEK:
We were treated to an outstanding classification talk by Dana Huber. We learned she became a realtor after selling her printing business. As the product of a vocational school, she also made a successful career out of working for vocational schools, first in New Jersey and now in Bethlehem. Dana spoke with pride about her grandfather being a Rotarian. We are looking forward to many years of her faithful service with our Club. (My post-meeting research filled in the details about Peter Tork, keyboardist and bass guitarist of the Monkees.)
FUTURE EVENTS:
CENTENNIAL PARK CLEANUP:
Past President Pete Mickolay reminds us that as Fall winds down and the leaves drop, it is time to prepare our Centennial Park for winter (and Spring)! We have planned a cleanup party for Saturday, November 5 and Sunday, November 6. The party starts at 9 AM both days at the Ice House parking lot on Sand Island. Club-provided tools like rakes and compost bags will be there, but feel free to bring your own rake, pruning shear, lopper or leaf blower. Cindy Glick will lead the Saturday crew and Pete Mickolay will lead the Sunday crew.
Email Pete at aykroydhardware@verizon.net to indicate the day you will be helping. Our committee appreciates the various Rotarians who have "looked" after our Park since Spring and keep it a favorite spot to enjoy nature. Bring along a friend or future Rotarian interested in outdoor community service.
HUNGER AND HOMELESSNESS AWARENESS WEEK:
Lehigh Conference of Churches community forum Monday, November 14, 2pm, at DeSales University, 2755 Station Ave. Desmond Mathew will be keynote speaker who has collected national data on eviction, forced moves, and poverty in America. FREE FORUM
