On Wednesday Dr. Joseph Roy, Superintendent of the Bethlehem Area School District, provided an informative update on our school district including the “Key Initiatives” such as full day kindergarten and its added benefits to children by doubling actual classroom time and community schools.
The Schrempel Music Scholarship Award this year went to Rory Lipkis, a senior at Liberty High School. Don Spieth introduced Rory and then all in attendence were entertained as he played the piano. This very talented young man will attend Stanford University in the fall.
THE ROTARY FOUNDATION: Foundation Chair George Mowrer will give us a final report in the coming weeks as we complete our annual campaign. I thank every member who has donated and encourage those that have not to consider making a contribution. Rotary International projects change lives throughout the world. There is no minimum amount. CLUB SERVICE ASSIGNMENTS: July 1 starts a new Rotary year and Committee assignments are in process so please give some thought to areas of club service for next year. Every member will be asked to select at least one committee. Go to www.bethlehemrotary.org for the complete committee list.

Rotary members in California, USA, began helping poor communities in Ecuador through microcredit loans several years ago. When the Rotary Club of Marin Evening decided to take on a global grant project, it partnered with a microcredit organization in the province of Esmeraldas to extend its impact. They got other clubs involved to offer many more poor women small loans and training that will help them expand their businesses.
