This week I had the pleasure inducting Jennifer Davies, my first new member as president of our club. Thanks to Dave Erickson, who sponsored our new Rotarian and introduced her to all of us. Keep the new members coming!
President Thea, Sponsor Dave Erickson, and our newest Rotarian, Jennifer Davies!
Tim Mulligan from Communities in Schools gave us an overview of its program. The program focuses on graduation and identifies students in danger of dropping out or those who have dropped out. Tim shared about that nationally 1.2 million students drop out every year. These people earn, on average, $10 K less a year than those with a high school diploma. They cost society over $292 K over their lifetime through services, loss of tax revenue and other reasons. There are many reasons why a student may drop out including homelessness, illness, and family. Communities in Schools connects them with adults who care and can help them navigate their life. The organization is in six school districts and 44 schools in Lehigh, Northampton, and Berks counties.
