This past week we had  Alicia Orbina present information about Rotary Action Groups and Fellowship. We also had the wonderful opportunity to participate in our first NEW service project of the year – the backpack handout at the Greenway with Community Action Downtown Bethlehem. We had about 5 Rotarians plus some of their guests come out on Friday. We handed out 100 backpacks in 20 minutes! Ham and Bill Eckert were slinging pizza to the kids and their families too. This was a fun project that we look forward to participating in next year!

Backpacks galore!

Pizza Pizza!

Also a message from Morning Star about the exchange student we are co-sponsoring:

Antek from Poland arrived safe and sound on Sunday (see attached photo - he's the one in the blazer). He and our MSR Justin, his in-country Counselor, already met up! It sounds like his English is quite good and he's settling in nicely with his host family.

He'll be joining our meetings once in a while, but the magic of the exchange experience happens during meetups with YOU, living your best lives!

The goal is that he hang out with members at least once per month. Activities you could invite him to include meals at your home, games, tours, shows, jaunts on your yacht (include me please LOL!), gatherings for other groups you're involved with, family parties, etc.

We also are hoping a few of you can be available to drive him to some of the district activities he's required to attend, to give his host family a break. Plus the car rides are a great opportunity for us to get to know him. (Note that federal law says if you're alone with a minor, you need clearances, but if it's the minor and at least two other people you do not need clearances.)

Please fill out your ideas here. Thank you in advance!

This week we have Dee Eng and Gary Rohrbach speaking about the Rotary Friendship Exchange at our noon meeting at Perkins.

As a reminder save the date – September 14 – for the Vibrant Club Summit hosted by District 7430 at Montgomery County Community College from 8am-3pm. I will have information at the meeting Wednesday. It would be great to have at least 1 Rotarian from our club attend.

We have so many new and exciting events on the horizon and I look forward to seeing you all Wednesday!

Yours in Rotary service,

President Lori Knerr
