Wednesday’s meeting included a festive Thanksgiving dinner, with nearly 100 Rotarians and guests sharing the turkey and all the trimmings prepared to perfection by the staff at Moravian Village. In attendance were DGE Linda Young from Saucon Valley, ADG Janet Kolepp and President Ron Searfoss from Bethlehem Morningstar, along with several other Rotarians from those clubs and Allentown, Easton, Nazareth and Emmaus as well. Thanks and commendations to our own Bruce Palmer for his leadership and coordination in organizing this annual and enjoyable meeting.
Wednesday’s speaker was Sharon Jones Zondag, Executive Director of the R.K.Laros Foundation. Sharon told us the story behind one of Bethlehem’s most renowned citizens, sharing the contributions Mr. Laros and his family made during his lifetime, and the ongoing community support provided by the Foundation that bears his name. It was an interesting and informative session.
On Wednesday, we also honored BAVTS Artisan of the Month Jeff Gergar, a senior from Freedom High School enrolled in the Electrical Construction program at the Vo-Tech School. Jeff spoke of his preparation leading to an apprenticeship in the electricians union upon graduation. He is clearly a confident and skilled young man appreciative of our support.
Finally, the Club recognized Ms. Bette Fay as a Paul Harris Fellow in a brief ceremony at the conclusion of the meeting. Although Ms. Fay was unable to attend, her son, Rotarian Chad Paul, accepted the certificate and pin on her behalf. Congratulations, Bette, and thank you for your generosity and support.

Tracy Bozik needs some volunteers to help prepare the dictionaries for the upcoming distribution at Bethlehem schools. Please join her at the Bethlehem Public Library on Black Friday, November 27th, from 10:15 to noon. It’s time well spent and considerably less expensive than being at the malls.
Sign up sheets for the Salvation Army bell ringing on Saturday, December 12 at Christkindlmarkt will continue to be at the front desk for the next several weeks. We are asking for volunteers to serve one hour shifts for this worthy cause.
With no meeting on Wednesday, November 25th in recognition of the holiday, Happy Thanksgiving to all. We will meet again on Wednesday, December 2nd, and our program will include a Happy Bucks session to get us in the spirit of the season. Until then, continue to be a gift to the community.
