Last Wednesday's meeting featured Fr. James Greenfield, OSFS from DeSales University as our speaker. Fr. Jim is the 4th president of DeSales and a 1984 graduate of the University. He became president in 2018. He shared DeSales University's relatively brief history, having opened in 1965. Its first class was 156 graduates, all male. It began with a $2 million gift from the Diocese of Allentown.
Today DeSales has 3080 students and a $91 million endowment. Most students come from a 80-mile radius and 20% from NJ. Fr. Jim shared the challenges of staying relevant including higher costs of education over inflation, declining enrollment, and online colleges. He's adopted the mantra...go online or get our of business.
