LAST WEEK:
We celebrated a partnership with BAVTS in the National Technical Honor Society in collecting winter clothing for Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering. Rotarian Dana Huber brought five students with her: Daron Cordero (Freedom), Andrew Morgan (Freedom), Mariah Ortiz (Liberty), Cheyenne Kocher (Northampton), and Jada Wackley (Northampton). Well over 100 winter coats were donated along with other vital items for the cold weather. BES Executive Director Bob Rapp was on hand to receive the donations.
An impressive group of people -- and the winter gear they collected
After the photo session in the lobby of the Fowler Family Center, we moved to our usual meeting space on the 5th floor and Daron Cordero led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Daron was the first of our two BAVTS speakers. He hopes to pursue a degree in law enforcement from Northampton Community College. The second speaker was Andrew Morgan, actively pursuing a career in plumbing.

The guest speaker was Paula Johnson, Executive Director, Northeast Community Center. Although sporting a new name and logo, this organization has been serving Bethlehem for just over 40 years. Paula noted that volunteers are the heart of the ministry. Rebuilding after the serious impact of Covid-19, they currently have three staff and two vacant positions. Paula made an appeal for volunteers, food donations, and monetary gifts. Sponsoring children from the Marvine-Pembrook community for Summer Camp 2023 is an effective way to be helpful right now.
