The August 5th meeting focus had a distinctive "Tastes and Tunes" feel. Our featured speaker was Gary Martell from the Boys and Girls Club, the beneficiary organization for this year's edition. Gary told us how the funds raised by T&T would have a threefold beneficial effect on the many programs that help the children who attend the Club's two facilities. He specifically mentioned the impact of our funding on programs to improve nutrition, prevent gang membership, avoid substance abuse and improve educational achievement.
We also heard from Andy Scott, CEO of Scott Chevrolet. Andy and his wife Carol will serve as Honorary co-Chairs for this year's Tastes and Tunes. Andy spoke movingly about his commitment to the many community benefits made by the Boys and Girls Club of Bethlehem. He noted a long time familiarity with Rotary as well--his dad was a Rotarian for over 60 years.
In a related presentation, Thea Phalon and Tyler Papaz from the T&T Committee gave us all an interactive tutorial on how to register online for T&T through Clubrunner. The demonstrated how simple and easy the process would be.
Other News
As I'm writing this, I'm enjoying fond memories of Wednesday's "Rotary Fights Hunger" night at Citizen's Bank Park in Philadelphia. Thanks to your generosity, the Bethlehem Rotary Club was able to buy tickets for 78 youngsters and young adults from Northeast Ministries and The Center for Independent Living to see the Phillies and Dodgers. For many, this was their first big league game. (Please note that I didn't report on who won the game).
Ron Bauer will be sending emails to all who weren't able to make their ClubRunner directory changes at the luncheon meetings. Please watch for his email and respond as quickly as possible.
I hope that many of you have accepted Past President Ham Malek's invitation to his home for a Wine and Cheese Reception today, Sunday, August 9th, from 4:00 to 6:00 to learn more about Rotary International's Million Dollar Journey.
Finally, please remember that the August 12th meeting will be held at Muskiest at SteelStacks on the South Side. Just mention Rotary as you pull in and you will be directed to reserved parking. Head then to the Visitor's Center next to the Leavitt Pavilion. Our meeting will be in the space directly behind the main stage. I hope to see you there.
