Our speaker this week was Brett Biggs from Christmas City Spirits. Instead of enlightening us on how spirits are made, Brett shared about how the business is helping respond to the COVID -19 pandemic by making hand sanitizer. Their first batch was made from further distilling rum and had a slight molasses scent. They then began production of sanitizer, which takes 2 1/2 to 3 weeks per batch, and requires further distillation until it's 80% alcohol. It's then mixed mixed following World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines and distributed to health care workers. They've donated 23 gallons so far. Christmas City Spirits is also still producing their spirits during this time and those can be ordered or delivered.
The Bethlehem Rotary Club is very appreciative of this service and will be making a donation to allow the purchase of more materials for sanitizer production. Please continue to send suggestions for ways our Club can safely assist our community.
In honor of Earth Day, our Club made a donation to onetreeplanted.org which plants trees to combat deforestation. A tree will be planted in honor of each member. Thanks to Lisa Jordan for arranging this.
Diane Donaher shared that we are currently at only 32% of our annual fund goal or $5785 towards our goal of $18,000. If you have not made a gift yet this year, please consider doing so. This money comes back to us through matching global and district grants.
SAD NEWS: Al Philpotts learned late Saturday that Clifton E. "Tip" Mowrer, a past president of our club and past district governor (1994-1995), passed away early Saturday morning. Please keep his family in prayer.
Thanks to those who joined on our meeting this week and our happy hour on Thursday. I really enjoy seeing you all! Our speaker next week will be Angie DelGrosso from the Chamber. Angie will be talking about the Chamber's response fund and how businesses are coping.
Have a great week and stay safe!
