This past Wednesday, our own Dennis Costello gave us a fascinating history of the Historic Hotel Bethlehem and its role in hosting well-known guests. Dennis has been general manager of the Hotel for over a decade, and recounted the hard work and detail that go into making a guest's stay comfortable and, in many instances, private as well. Among the many personages who enjoyed lodging in the heart of our city were Winston Churchill, the Dalai Lama, and four US Presidents. The Hotel Bethlehem is one of the few premier hotels that has a presidential suite and has actually hosted presidents. And all that was before Tastes and Tunes partnered with the Hotel B! Humanitarian Aid Requested
As many of you know, Past President George Hahalis recently relocated to Napa Valley, California. George wrote us last week describing the horrific wildfires in that region that have destroyed over 1600 homes, killing four people and charring 118 square miles of Lake and Napa Counties. George has requested assistance for members of the Rotary Club of Middletown, California, a small club of thirty members, most of whom have lost their homes, possessions, and their home town. He has asked for any contribution, however small, to help alleviate the suffering caused by this disaster. George noted that food, clothing and shelter have all been provided by the Salvation Army and Red Cross and are no longer needed. However, financial donations and/or gift cards are all needed and appreciated. If you write a check, please make it out to The Rotary Club of Middletown, California. George said that gift cards for Target, Wal-Mart, Kohls, Safeway, Shell Oil or similar stores are all desperately needed. Please send any contributions or gift cards to me, and I will forward them to George and the Middletown Club. Thanks in advance for your generosity in helping our fellow Rotarians deal with this catastrophe.
District Governor Visit This Wednesday
Please remember that District Governor Doug Cook will be visiting the Bethlehem Club at our meeting on Wednesday, October 7th. He has asked that our Board meet with him at 11:00, followed by his address to the Club at our regular luncheon meeting. I hope we have good attendance to show DG Doug the vitality and energy that is the Bethlehem Rotary Club.
By the time we meet again, we will have enjoyed the third annual Tastes and Tunes. I'm sure there will be lots of stories and fond memories of this exciting and important event.
