This week we welcomed Jennifer Dize and Kris Gomez from the Bethlehem Food Co-op. They gave a very informative presentation about the plans to open a community owned grocery store in Downtown Bethlehem. The co-op would bring fresh, healthy food to the downtown, which is considered a food desert. It would allow residents to be able to access these foods without the need of a car. Founded in 2011, the co-op currently has over one thousand members and is currently looking for a location. Anyone can shop at the co-op and members receive special discounts at the store as well as other businesses around town. Membership is a one-time family cost of $300. Marty Fins shared about a new membership initiative of sharing our Rotarian magazines at businesses we stop by such as doctors offices, car mechanic, and others. Labels have been printed to place on the front of the magazine encouraging folks to check out a meeting. Thank you to Marty for his work on this!
Our BAVTS Artisan of the Month was Kenneth from Web Design. Ken worked to overcome his nerves to share with us his story of finding a passion for programming.
Next week our guest will be Billy Staples from BEST Inc, a scholarship program for disadvantaged youth.
