THIS WEEK:

The Health Bureau will talk about a fairly new program that they developed with the Police Bureau.  Community Connections is the incorporation of social workers with  the Police Department to fosterer healthy relationships with the community they serve by assisting police with overall referrals in social service areas of need. It’s pretty cutting edge with Police services in general and they have had some pretty successful results.

As in previous weeks, this lunch meeting NCC's food service (SODEXO) will offer 4 wrap choices:

  • Chipotle Smoked Turkey Baguette wrap (smoked turkey, pepper Jack Cheese with Spicy Chipotle Mayo)

  • Roast Beet & Cheddar wrap (roast beef and mild cheddar, lettuce, tomato topped with tangy Horseradish cream spread)

  • Basil Pesto Tuscan Grilled Chicken wrap (grilled chicken with basil pesto, provolone, on Foccacia)

  • Roasted Vegetable Multigrain wrap (roasted squash, peppers, accompanied by Herbed Goat Cheese with Field Greens on a multigrain roll)

PLEASE EMAIL JILL LONG WITH YOUR CHOICE BY not later than TUESDAY AFTERNOON at 3 PM.  Cost $14.
If cash - exact change only.  If check - payable to Bethlehem Rotary Club

If you're planning to join by ZOOM - here's the club's link (but please be there in person)

LAST WEEK:

Our thanks to Past President Deb Walter for connecting us with a speaker for last Wednesday's meeting from St. Luke’s Health Network. We were treated to a presentation by Kelly Berk MPH, BSN, RN. She is program manager for the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP). Kelly has been working in public health and maternal child health nursing for over 23 years. She made a PowerPoint presentation describing evidence-based strategies with a strong focus on prevention. NFP is a home visitation program for low-income mothers starting early in pregnancy. It has been in the Lehigh valley starting in Bethlehem in 2001. In 2009 Allentown, Bethlehem and Easton joined to create one larger program. In 2019 NFP expanded to serve an additional 25 clients allowing them to care for 275 and most recently in 2022 they were able to expand again by one nurse bringing their total to 300 clients.

Near the end of the meeting, Rotarian Bill Royer made an announcement about a program he attended the previous evening regarding “Danny’s Ride”. Their mission is to provide free rides to recovery services for people living with substance disorder.  Nancy Knoebel is Founder and President. Contact: info@dannysride.org  or 484-265-1411.

CENTENNIAL PARK CLEANUP:

Our Centennial Park chairperson Pete Mickolay reported that the weekend cleanup at Centennial Park on Sand Island accomplished the Fall trimming, weeding, and some raking. The Saturday crew said as they would blow leaves toward the river-mother nature would blow them back! Thanks go out to Bill Eckert, Rose Cash, Maria Nathans, and our own District Governor Elect Diane Donaher!

With the warm weather, there are still leaves to drop and weeds to pull. If you have free time and want to enjoy our Park, contact Maria Nathans or Pete Mickolay on what is left to do. Remember-it is up to Bethlehem Rotary to maintain the Park year round...if we "keep up" with the maintenance it will allow future work parties to open the Park to better views of the river and a possible collaboration with BAVTS on an outdoor patio where we could host a weekly meeting or mixer, theater groups from the Ice House have rehearsal, or "you fill in the blank". Possibilities abound on what we COULD do with the Park.

A good weekend's work.  Thanks Rotarians.

Yours in Rotary service,

President Hopeton Clennon
