Our meeting this week was held at the Sally Breidegam Miksiewicz Center for Health Sciences on the campus of Moravian College. This location was deliberately chosen so our members could see, first hand, the new venue for this year’s Tastes and Tunes event. The program for the week was a “Business Meeting” where we generally dedicate our time to discuss the activities of our club. For this business meeting, Deb Walter and Bob Smith, this year’s co-chairs for the event, brought us up to speed, not only on the planning of the event, but also reminded us about why we hold this event and the meaningful impact it has on the two beneficiaries that have been selected this year… The Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District AND The Bethlehem Rotary Foundation!
The Honorary Chairs for this year’s event are John and Mafalda Callahan and Don and Lynn Cunningham. As a current and past Board member of the Foundation for the Bethlehem Area School District, respectively, John and Lynn spoke to us about the meaningful projects in the district that are funded as a result of the Foundation. In keeping within the spirit of Tastes and Tunes, this year, the proceeds from the Silent Auction and Raffle will support the purchase of instruments and musical programs in the Bethlehem Area School District.
Deb Geiger then shared some interesting and startling information about the work being done by our own Bethlehem Rotary Foundation, which will be the beneficiary of the proceeds from the Sponsorships and Ticket Sales from the event. While it warmed the heart to see organizations that we have been able to help over the years, it was heartbreaking to see the number of requests that our Foundation receives that go unfunded each year. Proceeds from sponsorships and ticket sales could generate $35,000, or more, which will provide additional funding (5 times as much annually!) to support the good work being done by The Bethlehem Rotary Foundation in our local community!
Deb Walter then closed by offering us a “taste” of what we can expect to see at this year’s event AND the importance of us all getting involved to support it!
Whether it is providing sponsorships, soliciting sponsorships, donating silent auction items, soliciting silent auction items, attending and helping at the event… there are a number of ways you can help! Remember, this is all being done in the spirit of streamlining the number of times we solicit our members for donations. This is our one signature event, and it is important that we all step up.
