Rotary was a busy place this past Wednesday. Chris Brown gave his classification talk. Chris is Branch Manager of the Bethlehem YMCA, and reminded us all why the "Y" is such a valuable community resource. He explained that the YMCA offers a wide array of services for fitness and fellowship; provides a sense of belonging to many; and, by the way, is an excellent place to learn how to play basketball or swim. Chris lives in Bethlehem with his wife and two young daughters. Thanks, Chris. We're glad to have you on board.
The Club welcomed BAVTS Artisan of the Month Thomas Benak, a senior at Freedom High School majoring in Culinary Arts. Thomas filled us in on a "White House" dinner he (and his classmates) prepared for the school's Board, and was on hand preparing some culinary favorites at last year's Tastes and Tunes. He hopes to attend the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY after graduation. Thomas is a very impressive young man.
We also presented Tip Mowrer with a special "Sponsor's Pin." Tip recently sponsored his son Andy as one of our newest Bethlehem Rotarians.

Pam Beatty put out a call for volunteers to help make Tastes and Tunes a success on October 4th. We will need about 40 Rotarians or others to assist in all phases of the day's activities. Please help us by volunteering. More details to follow.
Some Rotarians have already volunteered to help with the "Clean the World" project sponsored by Taggert Associates and The Sands on Saturday, September 26th. Please think about donating two hours of your time to help assemble hygiene kits for families in need at a big tent adjacent to the Sands Hotel. By the way, The Guinness Book of World Records is interested in how many kits can be assembled that day. The goal is 25,000! Help us make history. The sign up sheet will be available again on Wednesday, September 23rd.
The Muhlenberg (Berks County) Club is running a bus trip to New York City for Rotary International Day at the United Nations on Saturday, November 7th. The bus will leave Kutztown at 6:00 and there are several seats still available. Please see me for more details if you would like to go.
Thanks to all who participated in our first "Happy Bucks" session of the year. Thanks to you, we all heard some good news about our club members and added $29 to the bottom line.
We have two foursomes entered into the District 7430 golf tournament for October 8th at Silver Creek, and we'd like to have one more. Please see PDG Gerry Long to register. It should be a great day.
We are still collecting wine to offer in the silent auction at Tastes and Tunes. Please think about bringing a bottle or more to Rotary this Wednesday.

On Wednesday, September 23rd, our speaker will be Patrick Mulcahy from the Pennsylvania Shakespeare Festival. Come hear about world class theater right here in the Lehigh Valley.
