Sunday May 10, 2020 (Mothers' Day)
Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there! I hope you’re enjoying a relaxing day. Benjamin and I are sharing lots of snuggles today and supporting local restaurants with take out.  Of course, he gets to pick because as he likes to remind me, “you’re only a mom because I’m your son.”
We had another really great meeting this week! Bethlehem Rotary is really starting to get the hang of these online meetings. Chris Nelson started us off with a wonderful poem about washing complete with demo. Paul Leese shared about, a billboard campaign to support Second Harvest. You can use this site to donate directly to the organization, which is helping so many who are experiencing food insecurity during this time. Chris Nelson then gave us an update on our Global Grant project in Jamaica. Although progress has been slowed, they are maintaining farm activities.
Our speaker was Jennifer Doane, a Certified Nutritionist. Jennifer shared a wealth of information with us about super foods, eating “real” (unprocessed) food, and about making small changes that can have impact. Some takeaways were to eat more colorful food, don’t overcook those veggies, and adding superfoods (even if they’re served with butter and brown sugar on a sweet potato) helps get those nutrients in. We also had a lively discussion about how to use flax seed (you have to break the hull!) and are conserving a superfood day at Moravian Village when we are able to return there. It was a fun presentation thanks, in part, to all your wonderful questions and comments! You download her presentation, plus several handouts that are available on our website.

Next week we’ll have a Classification talk from new member, Jennifer Davies as well as some new member initiations. I hope you’ll join us!
Yours in Rotary service,
President Thea Lind

Hacking a solution to the COVID-19 pandemic
Rotarians in Lithuania and Chicago, Illinois, USA, are using their influence to promote the use of “bubble helmets” and potentially lessen the need for mechanical ventilators for COVID-19 patients who struggle to breathe on their own. It is one of many ways that Rotary clubs are responding to the pandemic.
