Our own Ron Bauer gave Rotarians a taste of “Arctic Adventures” during Wednesday’s meeting. Ron proved to be an outstanding travel guide, and demonstrated his skill as a wildlife photographer, as he recounted his many fishing trips to the Canadian Northwest Territories. Rotarians saw the beautiful Arctic in all of its rugged splendor, along with grizzly bears, wolverines, Arctic foxes, caribou, wolves and musk oxen. Although he promised not to dwell too heavily on the fishing side of his journeys, we also saw some trophy sized lake trout and Arctic graylings. Ron was a great storyteller with a fascinating story to tell. Thanks, Ron, for sharing these adventures with us.
George Mowrer gave us all a monthly update on our Rotary Foundation fund drive for this year. A short video showed us visible evidence of Rotary’s impact around the world, and we continue to make progress toward both our fund raising goal of $16,000, and our additional goal of 100% member participation. Currently, we are at nearly 80% of our fund raising goal. We still have a way to go toward 100% participation. It is important that all members try to give at least something to the Rotary Foundation this year. We still have a few months to go. Please consider helping out, if you have not made a contribution already.

Welcome back, Don Hunter! Don expressed his thanks to the Rotarians who supported him with cards, visits and other good wishes during his recent hospitalization.
Ron Madison, Chair of the Membership Committee, spoke about our recruiting event at the Iron Pigs on May 3rd. Ron challenged all of us (by age group, no less) to bring along prospective members to this evening of baseball and fun. It’s a comfortable and effective way to introduce the fellowship and benefits of Rotary to fellow professionals in our area.
The Rotary Four Way Speech Contest was held Wednesday evening in the Bethlehem City Hall Rotunda. Freedom High School senior student Abigail Burnett took home the honors with an address about the importance of learning foreign languages as means of lowering cultural barriers among peoples of the world, a message right in line with Rotary values. Abigail will move on the Region competition and perhaps to the District level this year. Thanks to Charlie Walter who organized the event, sponsored by our club and Bethlehem Morning Star.
Tip of the Week
Have you ever left anything behind while on vacation and found that the hotel/restaurant/ theater won't send it to you? When it happened to Deb Walter--she left her cell phone in a restaurant in Florida--she immediately thought of Rotary. Deb called the local Rotary Club and asked a member to pick up the phone and send it back. Our Rotarian colleague in Florida happily complied. Building good will and friendships through Rotary crosses state lines! Quick thinking, Deb!
Our speaker on Wednesday, March 9th will be Lisa Fiori from “Girls on the Run,” a transformational learning program for 8 to 13 year old girls. Hal Funt will introduce Lisa. I hope you can attend.
