This week we heard from Dr. Hans Diehl, founder of the Coronary Health Improvement Project (ironically called CHIP)! Dr. Diehl shared with us some startling statistics about how as a society, we are just living a less healthy lifestyle. Sharp rises in the incidences of coronary disease and diabetes were noted, along with a widening of the average width of a chair seat!! Dr. Diehl is working to create awareness about the health benefits that can be achieved by increasing our intake of foods from the earth, including fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. Dr. Diehl also reminded of why he always enjoys speaking to Rotary clubs…. It was at a Rotary meeting where he first met his wife!!
Dr. Hans Diehl gives us a heart-to-heart talk about heart-health!
Congratulations to Jack Standbridge, who was officially inducted into Rotary International at our meeting! Rob Littner served as Jack’s sponsor as he became the 5th Rotarian inducted into RI this year! Congratulations Jack!
President Mark welcomes our newest Rotarian -- Jack Standbridge
You should have received an email message from Paul Ricciardi this past week regarding our dictionary project. The dictionaries are being delivered to Moravian College and we will be meeting in the lower level of the Haupert Union Building at 6:00PM on April 16th to sort and stamp the dictionaries. The more Rotarians we have, the more quickly we will get it done! Please reach out to Paul and let him know if you can help.
Registrations continue to build for our Networking Event on April 11th at the Hotel Bethlehem, which is GREAT, but we still need your help. At the present time, we have more guests than Rotarians registered. We want to make sure our guests feel welcome, so please make time for this important event. So far we have inducted 5 new members, and we will induct AT LEAST another 5 before the end of the year…. and it is events like this that help to create awareness and ultimately increase and improve our membership! Please contact Gerry Foran or Gerry Long to get registered. Remember…. complimentary beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres… and inspiring words from Hank Barnette!!
Please keep Steve Dolak and his family in your thoughts and prayers this week. Steve was hospitalized for a stroke this week, and will be having surgery on Monday. If you wish to send Steve a card, his home address is: 3237 Rim Rd. Bethlehem, PA. 18020.
Thank you (again) to Thea Phalon, who will be pinch-hitting for me this week at our meeting. Our guest will be Jon Merwarth, the leader of Bright Hope Pregnancy Support Centers. Diane Donaher will also provide an update on our progress toward our $18,000 and 100% participation goals for the RI Annual Fund. AND we will hear from Angela Sabatino, a sophomore from Freedom and Mary Plum, a junior at Liberty who will share their experiences with us as part of the BAVTS Shadow Program. It will be a great program!!
