Here is President Mike's weekly newsletter:

St. Luke’s University Hospital and Health Care Network President Rick Anderson brought the Rotary Club all the news about one of the area’s most respected organizations.  To paraphrase a popular television commercial, this isn’t our fathers’ St. Luke’s anymore, except in quality of medical care and service.  Rick spoke about St. Luke’s current expansion into Monroe County with the construction of a brand new hospital near Bartonsville and highlighted its many “Partnerships for a Healthy Community,” including a truly innovative organic farming agreement with Rodale.  St. Luke’s now has health care facilities in five counties in Pennsylvania, and is established in Warren County , New Jersey as well.  St. Luke’s continues to receive nationwide acclaim for its physicians, care and community outreach.  Rick’s talk underscored for many how lucky we are to have a health care resource like St. Luke’s right in our own backyard.

Thanks to Kamran Afshar for scheduling Rick and introducing him at Wednesday’s meeting.

Other News

Rotary’s 2016 version of “Bowl and Bites” on Thursday the 18th was a big success and a fun filled evening.  Thirty Rotarians and guests enjoyed two hours of bowling and fellowship at Revolutions.  No trophies were awarded, but rumor has it that the champion bowlers of the night included Deb Geiger, Mike and Lynn Albarell, and Mark Reed.  One or two of us posted what would have been excellent golf scores.

Thanks to Buck Jones and his committee for organizing the event.  I’m already hearing  requests that we do it again sometime soon.

In the good news department, Don Hunter is home from the hospital and on the mend.  He hopes to be able to return to Rotary soon.

Continuing requests to save the dates:
  • Cops and Kids Reading Day, April 25—volunteers needed
  • Bethlehem Rotary  Centennial Gala Dinner, June 3rd
  • City of Bethlehem Community Celebration Day, June 25th—volunteers needed
Our speaker on Wednesday, March 2nd will be our own Ron Bauer, who will talk about his  “Arctic Adventure.”  It sounds both adventurous and fascinating.  I hope you can attend.  Note that the meeting will be in March.  Spring is just a few weeks away.

Until then, continue to be a gift to the community.

Yours in Rotary,

Mike McGovern, President
