Monday September 11, 2023:

Last Wednesday's meeting brought us back to our previous meeting spot at Moravian Village. It was a welcome and long overdue return. It was wonderful to see Rotarians we have not seen in a bit, as well as our regular attendees, mingling and catching up.

Last week also brought us a surprise guest in Charlotte Hartmann-Hansen, who spoke briefly about ROTAPLAST and the 2nd annual fundraiser at the Pannsylvania Playhouse, presented by the District 7430 ROTAPLAST Team. The production of Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, will be on Saturday October 21. Doors open at 6 and show starts at 7:30. Tickets are $49. The show is being produced by our very own District Governor Diane Donaher’s daughter Darah.

Our featured speaker was Chris Yarnell, the founder and CEO of BattleBorne, the beneficiary of this years Tastes & Tunes.

Chris spoke about his time in the military, adjusting to life outside of the military and his experiences with other volunteer organizations, all of which led him to found BattleBorne with his wife Cadence 5 years ago. Their vision was for one organization that could do it all, and if they couldn’t do it all, they could make a warm referral connecting the veteran in need to the organization that could help. He shared that very often it is hard for a veteran in need or crisis to ask for help.  And if they do and the answer is no, then oftentimes they will not ask again. His motto? Veterans don’t get told no!

Chris shared at the meeting that piece-by-piece the organization has become a start-to-finish place for veterans and the only thing now missing is the transitional home. The proceeds from Tastes & Tunes will go toward that home and make all his “crazy ideas” (in his words) a reality.

As a reminder, Tastes & Tunes is October 22 at DeSales University from 3pm-6pm. We still need sponsorships, ticket sales and auction items. Please, if you have not done so already, help out in any way you are able. Our next committee meeting is Tuesday September 26 at 5:30 at BAVTS and all are welcome!

And Jill Long asked us all to purchase scratch-offs the next time we're at the store - to donate to the club as a major prize for event attendees who play the corn hole game.

The luncheon spread last week was amazing and well worth the $18 per person price.  Plan to attend and to be amazed with the variety and quality of the food - - and DESSERTS!.

This Wednesday the 13th, our featured speaker will be our own Dana Huber, plus students from BAVTS who will share their summer story about converting a gasoline engined car to an all electric one.  Instead of our regular meeting, we are ALL invited to make a field trip to BAVTS next Wednesdy the 20th at 12:30 PM to hear some distinguished speakers and then to witness the grand unveiling of the vehicle.  Please scroll down a wee bit on our home page to see the event flyer and to click the link to RSVP for the event.

The arrangements for Zoom support of meetings at Moravian Village are still being worked out.  I'm providing the link, but can't promise that it will be available.  So please make every effort to attend in person.   https://us02web.zoom.us/j/81841760217?pwd=WU9iT2FUTSs5cEpZWmNOSnJGSlpodz09

Yours in Rotary service,
