We proudly announce a new home for our weekly meetings! Join us on the 6th floor of Fowler Family Center, 511 E Third Street, Bethlehem. This is the Southside campus of Northampton Community College. We are in room 625. Be sure to let Jill Long (jillwilsonlong@gmail.com) know ASAP if you are interested in purchasing the lunch provided by Sodexo. The cost is $14 per person. And because we DO have a caterer, please do not bring your own food.
Our guest speaker will be Chief Michelle Kott, completing her second year as Chief of Police for the Bethlehem Police Department and her 18th year as a member of the BPD. Chief Kott is a graduate of DeSales University. She earned a Master’s of Science in Criminal Justice from Saint Joseph’s University and a doctorate from California University of Pennsylvania.
LAST WEEK:
On Wednesday last week at our regular weekly meeting of the club, we were delighted to receive in person greetings from Bob Rapp, Bethlehem Emergency Sheltering Executive Director. The program featured a panel discussion on a selection of books on homelessness. Past President Deb Walter made the opening presentation with some helpful slides on the book by Robert Lupton, Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help. Rotarian Maria Dietrich facilitated the remainder of the meeting and shared helpful insights from the book by Matthew Desmond, Evicted: Poverty and Profit in the American City. We offer sincere thanks to all who read any of the four recommended publications and shared their insights. This is a most relevant topic for our times.
