For many years our Bethlehem Rotary Club has been “fighting cancer with style” by contributing clothing to the popular “Boutique at the Rink” drive at the Earl E. Schaffer Ice Rink. On Wednesday, Co-chair Karen Hein and Committee Member Jan Connell told the story of just how important the Boutique has become as a major cancer-fighting fund raiser in our community. Rotarians saw a video outlining how over 300 volunteers prepare for and conduct the sale of clothing and small appliances that last year raised almost $250,000 for St. Luke’s and the Cancer Support Community. This year’s Boutique will open May 31st and run through June 4th. Thanks to all the Rotarians who donated clothing on May 4th and May 11th.
This month’s “Shadows” from the Bethlehem Area Vocational Technical School surprised us with the presentation of two Bethlehem Rotary Club banners they designed and made in their Graphic Communications program at BAVTS. Keylanie Ortiz, Liberty High sophomore, and Augustus Smith, a sophomore at the Lehigh Learning Academy, shared their career plans and professional interests. Keylanie appears headed for a career in business, while Augustus clearly prefers the creative side of his program. The Shadows were joined by their program teacher, Dana Huber.
Unfortunately, Bill Votral is still hospitalized following surgery at LVH-Muhlenberg. Please continue to keep him in your prayers and thoughts.
