District Governor Visit
Linda Young
Our Club had the distinct honor of welcoming our District Governor, Linda, to our Club on August 17. DG Linda began her Rotary Career in the Quakertown Club in 2001, where she served as Club President, and has grown increasingly more committed to the goals of Rotary and the power of Rotarians and Clubs to improve the lives of people locally and internationally. She was asked to become a charter member of the Rotary Club of Saucon in 2007. She served four years as Assistant Governor in Area 6 and is currently proud and honored to be the District Governor.
Linda has served on most Club Committees and several District Committees throughout her Rotary experience. She chaired the District Rotaplast Committee and has been a mission participant. She served as the District Rotary Leadership Institute Chair and is a faculty member for RLI, PETS, and District Educational Events. She is proud of the participation of District Rotarians in these educational events and feels that each opportunity to learn about Rotary builds leaders and strengthens our Rotarians and Clubs to “do good for others.”
On a personal level, Linda is proud to be a nurse and retired from a 40 year career in Nursing Management from St. Luke’s University Health Network in 2012. She currently is a health care consultant and serves as adjunct faculty at DeSales University and Moravian College. She attributes her success to the unconditional support she has received from her husband of 40 years, Ray and her parents. Linda and Ray have two daughters, Emily and Ellen. They are also the proud grandparents of 6-year old twins, Mya and Leo
“Rotary Serves Humanity”, the theme for this year encompasses all we do as Rotarians every day. Linda shared that RI President John Germ calls his District Governors his “Stars.” Linda, I turn, is calling all of “Shining Stars” as we serve humanity and each other. She shared her major focuses of the year, which includes:
- Increasing Membership
- Supporting Rotary Foundation
- Continued Support of Local and International Projects
When sharing her membership goals for District 7420, DG Linda challenged our Club to go beyond the 10 new member goal set by President Gail. We now have a new goal of 12 new members, thanks to Linda’s encouragement and a bit of arm-twisting!
Our Club was energized by DG Linda’s visit and encouragement for all of us to remember why we are Rotarians. Let’s make DG proud and help her achieve her 2016-2017 Goals.

- In continued recognition of Rotary Membership Month, President Gail read an excerpt from a letter written by RI President John Germ sharing his thoughts on what it means to be a Rotarian:
“I embarked on my road to Rotary thanks to George Campbell, a dear friend and mentor who taught me the importance of civic responsibility. My former boss saw a potential leader in me and I thank him for his guidance. After starting down that road, I met many other Rotarians walking the same path. They offered me their help, shared advice, and made sure I kept moving in the right direction.
I am the person I am today because of Rotary. To be a member of the Rotary family is to be a part of something much bigger than yourself. It means that you are a member of a diverse, worldwide team whose members together have provided extraordinary service to humanity.
As we celebrate Membership Month this August, I hope you reflect not only on your road to Rotary, but also how to help set others down that road. As club and district leaders, you set the example for your fellow Rotarians as active, engaged members of our organization. You not only play an important role in inspiring current members, but also in attracting new ones. There is a potential Rotarian in anyone who cares about their community and strives to make the world a better place. Finding a new member can be as simple as inviting someone you know to your next meeting.”
- Diane Donaher and Bernadette Holland followed up on the Membership Month theme by graciously sharing their personal testimonials about “What It Means to be a Rotarian.” Thank you Diane and Bernadette for your inspirational words!
