Greetings fellow Rotarians,

Brennan Pursell provided another update on the Centennial Park Project:  Rotarians gathered to place an acrylic coat of paint over the mural, stain the gazebo and continue with the weeding.  A dedication ceremony is being scheduled for September.

Over 25 Rotarians and family members enjoyed a round of mini-golf at Putt U last Thursday.   Kudos to Buck Jones and Maria Nathans for planning this fun outing for our Club.  During our ‘Who’s That Rotarian’ time, we learned that Jill Long had the distinct honor of having the best score of the evening – even beating Jerry!  Congratulations Jill!

Our food packing event aired on PEAK TV on WFMZ on Sunday, June 11.  Since only a few Rotarians tuned in, a link to the 3-minute segment will be sent to all Rotarians through Club Runner to watch at their leisure.

Don Spieth had the honor of introducing this year’s Walter A Schrempel Music Scholarship winner.  Eight extremely qualified and talented candidates applied for the coveted scholarship this year.  The Schrempel Scholarship Committee, consisting of himself, Martha Schrempel, Al Philpotts, Bruce Palmer and Jeff Parks, came to a consensus in selecting Ryan Bailis because of the joy and passion he displayed during his audition.  Ryan graduated from Freedom High School this past spring and will be attending Bucknell University to study engineering.  Ryan played from the Bach, Suite no. 1 in G major for Unaccompanied Cello to a captivated audience of Rotarians, while his proud father watched.  The Committee is to be congratulated on selecting such a talented young man.  We wish Ryan all the best as he continues his education.

Yours in Rotary Service,
President Gail

Why Rotary is investing in zero and beyond

When was polio last in Europe? If you guessed 2002, the year the region was certified polio-free, you’re wrong. The last time polio affected a child in Europe was 2015. Outbreaks like the one that occurred in Ukraine that year are why, although we are so close to eradicating polio, we still need $1.5 billion more to finish the job. Learn about the steps needed to ensure polio is truly gone forever.
