Our August 2nd meeting included an extremely informative presentation by Dave Fagerstrom, the President and CEO of the Greater Valley YMCA.   Dave shared with us all of the challenges and opportunities associated with bringing 7 regional YMCA’s under one organizational umbrella.  The collaboration between the clubs of Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Forks, Nazareth, Slate Belt and Suburban North has already helped to create efficiencies making all of the clubs stronger.  It was eye-opening to learn that the Great Valley YMCA serves more than 100,000 individuals annually.  Chris Brown, Executive Director of the Bethlehem YMCA was on hand to introduce Dave.  Thank you Chris and Dave for a great program.

As a reminder, there were a few announcements:
  • Our meeting this week will be at ArtsQuest (the large venue for Musikfest).   ArtsQuest President and CEO, Kassie Hilgert, will speak to us about what is next for ArtsQuest.  Please be sure to join us… as of this past week, we had very few of us scheduled to attend.  We want to show our support!  NOTE:  There are a limited number of parking passes available for those who need to park more closely to the venue.  Please reach out to Cindy Glick if you need a parking pass.

  • Hal Funt has e-mailed the invoices for 2017/18 dues to the e-mail addresses captured in the Clubrunner system.  If you have not received your invoice via e-mail, please contact Hal directly.

  • September 16th is the Rotary Leadership Institute at DeSales University, a great way to learn more about how you can help lead Rotary at the club, district, and international level. Please contact me if you are interested.

  • The 7th Annual Rotary District 7430 Yvette Palmer Purple Pinkie 5K run is scheduled for Saturday, October 14, 2017 at LCCC in Schnecksville, PA. The proceeds of this event go to RI’s Polio Plus Program. Our club is one of the sponsors, and we have two slots available for anyone who would like to participate in the run/walk. Please let me know if you are interested.

Yours in Rotary Service,

President-Elect Mark Reed
