At our August 30th meeting, Bob Smith updated members on our Tastes & Tunes program coming up on October 1st.  Bob gave us rundown of sponsors for our event, and asked of all members, if you haven’t purchased your tickets yet, please do it soon.

Our program was our District Governor, Rick Gromis, who spoke to us about the future of Rotary. Rick pointed out that, if Rotary is to remain vibrant, we must adhere to our basic principles and tradition of service, but change the way we operate our clubs to better reflect the society in which we live.

Rick told us that Rotary has added New Generations as an area of service. With today’s record 1.8 billion young people in the world, that presents an enormous opportunity to transform the future. If we want the next generation to truly understand the power and purpose of Rotary, we must engage with them to provide them with the knowledge, leadership skills, and motivation to reach their full potential. We can do so by supporting Interact, Rotaract, Camp Neidig, and Rotary Youth Exchange as a club.

Rick extended an invitation to all members to attend the District 7430 Conference which will be at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Wyomissing, PA on April 27th, 28th, and 29th of 2018. The Conference will be designed so that you can attend all three days or just one day if that better suits your schedule. Mark your calendar.

I want to thank all of our Bethlehem Rotary Club members who were there to give Rick a warm welcome, and be inspired by his enthusiasm and dedication on our behalf.

At our next meeting on September 6th, we will be hearing from Missy Hartney of the Southside Arts District.
