At our meeting of April 4, we inducted one of our new members, Mark Walter. Mark, the spouse of Deb Walter, is a Compliance Officer with British Telecom, and is an avid scuba diver and rock climber. Mark is also a gun safety instructor.
I reminded members about the upcoming District 7430 Conference on April 27-29th. You can sign up for the Saturday-only session for $99, and receive a full reimbursement from our club. The District Conference is a great opportunity to network with Rotarians from other clubs, while learning about other service opportunities from the experts.
Our speaker was our member, Laura Kaplus, who delivered her classification talk. Laura is a graduate of Syracuse University, and is the Foundation Director of the Priscilla Payne Hurd Foundation. Laura was also the Director of the Cora L. Brooks Foundation until that Foundation closed. Laura began her career at Rodale Press after graduating from college and was manager of Touring & Sales for Touchstone Theatre for two years before accepting her current position. The Priscilla Payne Hurd Foundation supports, with anonymous donations, organizations that provide arts, culture, science, education, emergency needs, social and human services within the Lehigh Valley. Laura has become an active and engaged member of our club, and I encourage all members to get to know her. Laura was sponsored by Lisa Jordan.
